Despite suffering a game 3 loss against the Rays on Wednesday, the Detroit Tigers are looking to bounce back after a day's rest to take on the Seattle Mariners for a home weekend series. Detroit currently sits at 59-35, at the top of their division by a wide margin, and currently holds the best record in the MLB. The Mariners on the other hand, sit at 48-45, and are 2nd in the AL west, and are 7 games behind the Astros who currently lead the division. The Tigers are looking to stay dominant, while Seattle is looking to fight it's way into 1st.
The Tigers going to have to stay sharp in this series. The Mariners are by no means a bad team, but they aren't at the elite level. This puts them in a spot where most teams won't treat them as a concern when they really are, and thus it gives the Mariners an edge over their opponent. It's your classic underdog story. Based off of how we saw the Tigers treat game 3 against the Tampa Bay Rays, we know the Tigers might be prone to this habit. That being said, the Tigers should have their act together after that performance, and I don't think fans should worry about this series in general.
Detroit is going to need to tighten up at the pitching position. Letting up 7 points in their last game just isn't going to do it in this league. The offense put up a nice 3 points, but when your pitching and fielding let up 7, it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. While I am sure game 3 wasn't a representation of the exact way the Tigers season has gone, not has it represented how things will be in the future, it's important to analyze those mistakes and learn from them, because those mistakes just might end up costing the Tigers a playoff series. Overall, I think fans are in for a fun matchup this weekend! I'll be out next week since it's the All-Star week and there won't be much Detroit things to cover, but I will be back after!
