Entering the All-Star break the Tigers had just gotten swept in a 3-game series against the Seattle Mariners. This wasn't too concerning, and many were expecting a bounce back coming back from the break, but to fans surprise the Tigers lost another series against the Texas Rangers, losing 2-1. In the first series, the Tigers as a whole looked terrible. Allowing many runs and not fighting back offensively, the team didn't look like how they normally do. Coming back against the Rangers was better, but they still lacked offensively, costing them 2 games. Should we be worried, or is this just a bad slump?
The overall answer is no. As I have stated multiple times, fans have been anticipating this sort of thing for a while. Despite going strong up until this point, the Tigers are by no means going through a long-term slump. Both Seattle and Texas are 2 teams looking to fight for a wildcard spot, and that energy is hard to beat in this league. That being said, the Tigers are still looking like a dominant team in the league, this is just a humbling experience showing no team can be written off as an "easy win".
The Tigers head on the road to play the Pittsburgh Pirates next, and it's very likely the tigers will bounce back in this next series. The Pirates sit at 39-61, an abysmal record, and one that likely can't be improved to a postseason punch-in. With the Pirates season most likely in the books, I think it's highly likely the Tigers can use that post-loss rage to easily take care of business against the Pirates. It's going to be a fun series, and I think we may be looking at a potential Tigers sweep.
