The Detroit Tigers closed out a 3-game series today with a statement win over the New York Mets. With a final score of 6-2, the Tigers were able to escape the series with a single win but ultimately losing the series 2-1. Throughout the season, I have voiced my concern about the Tigers lack of ability to beat playoff teams. This series adds on to that feeling a bit.
With the first game's final score of 10-8, and the 2nd not much better at 12-5, it feels like a constant sting for fans every time the Tigers lose a series to a good team. Are the Tigers frauds? Not necessarily. They are a very young team coming off of a year with a wild ending none of us expected. This is their first successful year when you think about it- the Tigers are still learning how to maintain success for an entire season.
Despite not winning the series, or any series against dominant teams, I don't think we can count out the Tigers in postseason baseball just yet. Every team is different when the playoffs roll around. The Tigers could definitely be a problem even if it doesn't feel like it right now. Overall, it's a tough series, but nothing to hang our heads on.
