The NBA Draft began this week, and with that, it's time to cover who your Detroit Pistons selected. The draft began with the Dallas Mavericks selecting Cooper Flagg, to no ones surprise, a great player out of Duke, and it makes the Luka Doncic trade sting just a bit less. Unfortunately for the Pistons, they were unable to make a big splash in the first round, with only 1 pick throughout the entire draft taking place in the 2nd round. While it was rumored they might trade up into the first, they stayed where they were at in the 2nd, similar to what the Detroit Lions did in their draft a few months ago. When the Pistons were on the clock, they selected Chaz Lanier, a guard from Tennessee.
With the addition of Chaz Lanier, the Pistons hope to continue to build a roster around the young star Cade Cunningham, and to improve their backcourt shooting- an area they struggled in last season. This pick is a solid one for the Pistons-improving their backcourt was a necessary step they needed to take, and one that has much approval from fans and critics alike. It's safe to say Chaz Lanier will be met with open arms when he arrives to Detroit.
Chaz Lanier had a solid career at Tennessee. Averaging a solid 18 points a game, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.1 assists while shooting great from the 3 point line at 39.5%, and 43.1% from the field. This addition will really help Detroit's 3 point shooting. However, the young star lacks some necessary skills on the defensive side of the ball, something he can hopefully improve on in his time in Detroit. Overall, I think Pistons fans have a lot to be excited about, and a bright season ahead.
